Politics
The Valley's Power Struggle: Where the Divine and the Mundane Collide
In the magical Valley, control of the land is a game of alliances, loyalty, and strategy. Unlike the complex and fragmented medieval reality, we've chosen to simplify the hierarchy of power, creating a clear yet tense system perfect for political adventures and intrigue.
The Valley of Aosta we've imagined is a crucible of ambition, where faith intertwines with politics and power is a delicate dance. In this setting, every character can become the protagonist of epic adventures, filled with intrigue and moral choices.
A Complex Hierarchy
The power structure of the Valley is an intricate mosaic, where each piece can influence the whole picture.
The Church: Spiritual and Temporal Power
The Pope, the supreme spiritual authority, wields unparalleled influence. The Church manages monasteries, abbeys, and cathedrals - true power centers where consciences are shaped and plots are hatched. The representative of this powerful institution, the Bishop of Aosta, controls all religious groups in the valley, regardless of their deity or family ties.
feudal Land Lords
Noble feudal lords are the undisputed masters of their territories. Castles, fortresses, and towers are symbols of their power but also the targets of ambitious and quarrelsome rivals.
- Direct Vassals of the Emperor: Theoretically answerable only to the distant and disinterested Emperor, they represent an alternative force, wedged into Savoyard territories but not dependent on them. Their lands are often contested, and their supposed loyalty to the Empire often makes them potential threats to the Savoyards.
- Subjects of Savoy: Loyal to the House of Savoy, these nobles and vassals rule much of the valley with an iron fist. Their towers, strongholds, and castles stand proudly, symbols of territorial control with deep local roots but not without internal rivalries.
General Assembly
Here, the valley's powerful gather periodically in the presence of the Count of the Valley (Amedeo VI of Savoy) and his bailiff to discuss the fate of the land. An arena where words can be sharper than swords, and where every decision can upset the balance of power.
Tensions and Opportunities
This overlap of sacred and political/feudal power creates fertile ground for intrigue, alliances, and plot twists. Players can navigate these forces, choosing which side to align with or skillfully playing multiple sides. Whether they choose to serve the Church, the Savoyards, the Emperor, or their own vassals, every decision will have profound consequences for the balance of the valley.
A world in Constant Change
The magical Valley is not just a setting; it's a living world where politics is a weapon as sharp as a sword. Players must be ready to weave plots, forge alliances, and fight for power in a valley where every choice can change the course of history.
