In the chronicles of the Magica Vallee, a tale is told of a daring quest, undertaken by a band of wandering heroes, fresh from the perils of the Forest of Death. They bore with them a golden pauldron, a trophy from a forgotten battle, and they yearned to transform it into a weapon worthy of their destinies.

Guided by arcane whispers, they arrived at the city of Aosta, home to Günther Schmid, a dwarven smith of renown, capable of shaping metal with the skill of the gods. But the dwarf's pride would not yield to their entreaties, for the pauldron bore the symbols of a powerful house, and the risk of incurring their wrath was too great.

The adventurers, however, did not surrender. With the cunning of a wizard and the eloquence of a bard, they wove spells of enchantment, bending the dwarf's will to their own. Günther, subjugated by magic, accepted the commission, working tirelessly, night and day, to forge the desired blades.

While the dwarf toiled at his anvil, the heroes feasted and rested, oblivious to the consequences of their actions. In the morning, they returned to Günther's workshop, finding it engulfed in the chaos of a burgeoning market. Stalls lined the Rue Croix de Ville, and only the dwarf's forge, with its shutters ajar, seemed an island of desolation.

Günther, exhausted and with dark circles under his eyes, handed them the blades, glittering and lethal works of art. But his ordeal was not over. As soon as he stepped out of his workshop, he was assailed by a chorus of curses and insults. The neighbors, deprived of sleep by his incessant hammering, accused him of disturbance and threatened to call the guards.

The dwarf, heedless of their words, bolted his forge and departed, his steps faltering. Only then did the adventurers realize the extent of their selfishness. They had forced Günther to work without respite, depriving him of rest and the earnings of a market day. Their quest, born of a thirst for power, had turned into an act of unwitting cruelty, leaving an indelible mark on the life of the dwarven smith.
